Become a Master Gardener

MGRC welcomes new members and hosts an annual 10-week training program, typically scheduled from February through early April.  Participants receive 40 hours of classroom training, conducted by renowned experts from the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture. Topics include:  

  • Water Management 
  • Soil Science & Plant Nutrition 
  • Home Landscape Design 
  • Woody and Herbaceous Ornamentals
  • Turfgrass Management 
  • Vegetables 
  • Fruits & Nuts 
  • Pest Management 
  • Plant Diseases 
  • Weed Science 
  • Wildlife Management  

Upon completing the program, interns develop a special project and volunteer 40 hours of service in the first year. In subsequent years, each member volunteers 25 hours of service.  In addition, all members complete 8 hours of continuing education every year.
