Our annual plant sale is normally held the end of April. This is our major fundraising event and allows us to support our ongoing projects. The majority of the plants are from the Master Gardener’s gardens.
Roane County Park Waterfall
The support for the landscaping around the waterfall at Roane County Park is our responsibility. This includes maintenance of existing plants, weeding, mulching, and selection of additional plants.
Native Plant Garden
This project provides for the design of an area near the entrance of the Community Center in Kingston. The installation of the plants is expected to commence in the spring of 2018.
The Master Gardeners of Roane County (MGRC) have committed to picking up litter on approximately a quarterly basis on Highway 70 near the Roane County Park. The distance is approximately ½ mile in each direction from the Park on both sides of the Highway.
Lunch and Learn
As can be scheduled, an educational program is offered, free of charge, on the second Saturday of each month. It is held at the Roane County Extension Office at 12 Noon. The office is just west of the Co-op on Highway 70 west of Kingston. Attendees should bring their own lunch.
Habitat Urban Gardens (HUG)
The MGRC supports the landscaping of new homes designed and built by the Roane County Habitat for Humanity program. Master Gardeners meet with the new owner to select plants, understand the required maintenance of the landscape, and participate in the installation of the plants.
Bowers Elementary School
Master Gardeners participate with students at this school to involve them in an understanding of plants, how they grow, and have the students actually be involved in planting materials.
